PAINTER
BORN: 1928, Doylestown, Pennsylvania
DIED: December 13, 1978, Doylestown, Pennsylvania

Working primarily in watercolors, gouache, oils, and acrylics, Jeanetta Beauvais was a talented folk artist, and a native of Doylestown. After attending Greenbrier College, Beauvais attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1948 to 1951, studying with such notables as Daniel Garber, Franklin Watkins, Francis Speight, and Harry Rosin. She went on to study art history at the University of Pennsylvania, and went to create the art department at the Harbor Springs school in Michigan. Beauvais painted in a variety of genres, including nature stills, tree studies, flowers, and people. She also designed the insignia for the Submarine Spotter Patrol of the Eastern Seaboard, which was accepted in 1957. After 1968, her works focused on the traditional folk painting of the Pennsylvania Dutch frakturs, a style that won her much acclaim. Toward the end of her life, she produced Christmas card designs for American Artists Group Incorporated.
