Jane Charry

PAINTER
BORN: January 24, 1914, Elizabeth, New Jersey
DIED: September 12, 2001, St. Albans, Vermont

Though trained in art, Jane Charry did no serious painting after moving to New Hope in her early twenties. During that time she is quoted as saying, "I'd rather bake cookies than paint because painting made me nervous." She began to paint again around 1966, concentrating on landscapes of the New Hope area and Vermont, and portraits. Among her works is a mural on tile for the New Hope - Solebury High School. She also produced commercial art such as Christmas card designs and smaller items.
After her husband, sculptor John Charry's retirement, the couple moved to Vermont. Jane Charry passed away there in 2001.
