Teachers and Influences:
Lee Gatch studied with Leon Kroll and John Sloan at the Maryland Institute of Art, and André Lhote and Moise Kisling in Paris. Like his predecessor, Arthur Dove, Gatch developed personal symbolic images, evoking poetic responses to the natural world. Another friend and mentor was Max Kahn. He admired the French Modernists, Pierre Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard, and André Derain.
