Education and Training: Maryland Institute of Art, Maryland, 1920-24 American School at Fountainbleau, France, 1924 Worked with André Lhote and Moise Kisling, Académie Moderne, Paris, France, 1925 Worked with Peter Keenan, England, 1925 Teachers and Influences: Lee Gatch studied with Leon Kroll and John Sloan at the Maryland Institute of Art, and André Lhote and Moise Kisling in Paris. Like his predecessor, Arthur Dove, Gatch developed personal symbolic images, evoking poetic responses to the natural world. Another friend and mentor was Max Kahn. He admired the French Modernists, Pierre Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard, and André Derain.
