Abstract painting was undoubtedly the most influential art movement of the
20th century. Born in the first decade of the century in Russia and France,
the style is still practiced today by many important artists both locally and
nationally. This exhibition featured paintings from the 1950's and '60's by
such renowned artists as Helen Frankenthaler, Grace Hartigan, and Karl Knaths,
as well as works by Bucks County artists Alan Goldstein and Joan Lindley.
Many recent acquisitions not previously exhibited at the Michener were be
included.
Exhibition funding provided by The Pew Charitable Trusts, the Bucks County
Commissioners, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
