In George Nakashima and the Modernist Moment, Guest Curator Steven Beyer aimed to place the work of Nakashima in a new context by using the works of Fin Juhl, Carlo Mollino, Alexandre Noll, Charlotte Perriand, Gio Ponti, and Jean Prouvé to demonstrate Nakashima's importance in international modernism, and in the process, reexamine the notion of modernism as an exclusively industrial form.

The exhibition included 33 works by Nakashima that showcased his most celebrated designs, such as the Conoid series, among others. In addition to these Nakashima pieces, the exhibition included masterworks by celebrated European designers such as Fin Juhl's Chieftain Chair, Gio Ponti's Super Leggera chair, and the never-before exhibited Slipper Chair, by Charlotte Perriand.
