Born in Croatia, Maxo Vanka (1889 - 1963) was an internationally recognized
artist who was known for his vibrant pictorial sense, drawn from a
combination of the Old Masters and the early Moderns, that flowered in
numerous paintings, drawings, and sculpture. Thousands have seen his
unforgettable Millvale Murals in Pittsburgh, and many were touched through
his teaching and painting in Bucks County. This retrospective, the first in
America, traced the evolution of his work, and illuminated his unique
"gift of sympathy."
Exhibition Sponsorship In Memory of Margaret Vanka Brasko provided by:
The Alexander W. Brasko Family with The Frederick Rieders Family and
its Foundation. Additional support from: Dilworth Paxson LLP, the Conyne Family
